Job Title: Crank Grinder and Turbo Balancer (Diesel)

Department: Engine Remanufacturing / Machine Shop
Location: Choate Engineering Performance, Bolivar, TN.
Reports To: Shop Supervisor / Production Manager
Job Type: Full-time

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Crank Grinder and Turbo Balancer specializing in diesel engine components to join our remanufacturing team. This role is responsible for precision grinding of crankshafts and dynamic balancing of turbochargers to meet OEM and internal quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience with heavy-duty diesel engine components and a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate crankshaft grinding machines to recondition diesel crankshafts to OEM specifications.
  • Set up and operate dynamic balancing equipment to balance turbochargers and rotating assemblies.
  • Inspect crankshafts and turbocharger components for wear, cracks, out-of-round conditions, or imbalance.
  • Measure tolerances using micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision instruments.
  • Interpret technical manuals, drawings, and work orders.
  • Maintain accurate records of machining and balancing data for quality assurance.
  • Perform basic maintenance on grinding and balancing machines.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and handling of components to prevent contamination or damage.
  • Adhere strictly to safety procedures and company policies.
  • Collaborate with quality control and assembly departments to ensure seamless workflow.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in crankshaft grinding and/or turbo balancing, especially in diesel applications.
  • Familiarity with diesel engine components and specifications (Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, etc.). (Preferred)
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools. (Preferred)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
