Crane Operators are responsible for safely maneuvering overhead cranes to transport raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods throughout the plant. They ensure timely and precise movement of materials, contributing to the smooth workflow and productivity of the steel manufacturing process, while adhering to strict safety protocols to prevent accidents.

Essential Functions
  1. Adhere to all safety regulations outlined in the Plant Employee Manual.
  2. Ensure punctuality and follow attendance policies.
  3. Conduct inspections of crane equipment at shift start.
  4. Use two-way radios to coordinate with crane operators.
  5. Perform coil-cutting procedures for sampling.
  6. Manage inventory tags.
  7. Deliver materials to designated areas.
  8. Support packaging line operations by moving coils.
  9. Transport materials for Shipping/Receiving/Material Handling.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates should demonstrate safe and efficient work practices, physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and good communication skills. Proficiency with tape measures, micrometers, calipers, and a valid forklift license are necessary, along with the ability to operate overhead cranes and various lift devices. Familiarity with Stratix Software is also required.

Physical and Mental Requirements

The role involves prolonged physical activity, including standing, walking, and machinery operation. Hand-eye coordination, resilience to repetitive tasks, focus, hearing, vision, and problem-solving skills are essential for effective performance and safety.

Equipment, Aids, Tools

Proficiency with tools such as calipers, tape measures, micrometers, hand tools, plasma cutters, and familiarity with telecommunications and computer systems, including overhead crane operation, is required.

Working Conditions
  • Work within a steel manufacturing environment with moving machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Exposure to temperature fluctuations, loud noise, dust, debris, and airborne particles.
  • Strict safety protocol adherence is mandatory.
Supervision and Attendance

Supervision and co-worker assistance are available. Attendance is monitored, and unscheduled absences may impact staffing and operations.
