CRANE OPERATOR SHOREBASE
PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION

Work is primarily performed outdoors in every kind of weather condition and under unpleasant conditions. Depending on the task performed, the noise intensity ranges from moderate to extreme. Some tasks require working with very time-sensitive materials and hazardous substances. ESSENTIAL

Functions & Responsibilities
  • Adhering to EPS safe operations procedures.
  • Responsible for all rigging procedures according to EPS Rigging Manual.
  • Ensure that all clients’ expectations are met.
  • Operate crane under general supervision.
  • Manipulate or depress crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
  • Inspect crane for safety issues on a daily basis.
  • Determine if any parts are malfunctioning.
  • Complete job tickets, service quality summaries, and all other necessary paperwork.
  • Lift, position and place machinery, equipment or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities.
  • Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads.
  • Move levers and pedals to rotate crane on chassis to raise and lower crane boom and to raise and lower load‑line.
  • Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify boom for high lifting.
  • Work with in precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Operate crane according to signals from helper.
  • Start and stop crane engine.
  • Follow directions carefully.
  • Conduct / Take part in Pre-Job Safety Meeting.
  • Conduct JSA’s prior to conducting and job.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Technical
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate safe operation of equipment.
  • Must be able to travel safely to locations.
  • Possess a valid NCCER Crane Certification, TWIC card, BASIC Operation Plus, site specific plant orientation, EPS Cargo Handlers New Hire Orientation and any other certifications that the client determines necessary.
Physical Capabilities
  • Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes under dirty and uncomfortable conditions and in all kinds of weather. Heavy labor is defined, for example, boosting to height of head 50-pounds and height of waist 100- pounds, climbing up and down ladders and stairs repeatedly, standing on your feet for 12 hours at a time, carrying 100-pound sacks for short distances.
  • Physical strength and stamina to work 12-14 hour tours. Also requires tolerance for the heat and cold.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to work Daylight and Night time hours.
Other Capabilities
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency 24 hour shift requirements for calls in from off duty hours.
  • Use of Tools and Equipment: Ability to acquire sufficient skill in using tools and equipment used for the various tasks and functions described above.
Education & Experience
  • High school degree or equivalent is preferred. Additional training may be required in order to meet company or customer standards or expectations.
