The Craft Recruiter is responsible for sourcing, recruiting, and hiring skilled craft professionals to support construction projects across multiple job sites. This role partners closely with operations, project management, and field leadership to ensure workforce needs are met with qualified, safety-focused candidates who align with the company's culture and project demands.
The ideal candidate has experience recruiting for construction trades, understands the challenges of high-volume field hiring, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where workforce planning directly impacts project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute recruiting strategies to attract qualified craft professionals for heavy civil and deep foundation projects.
- Recruit for positions including, but not limited to:
- Heavy Equipment Operators
- Drill Rig Operators
- Crane Operators
- Pile Drivers
- Welders
- Ironworkers
- Carpenters
- Laborers
- Mechanics
- Foremen and Lead Craft Professionals
- Source candidates through online job boards, referrals, trade schools, unions (where applicable), social media, networking events, career fairs, and community outreach.
- Conduct phone screenings and interviews to assess technical qualifications, certifications, work history, and cultural fit.
- Coordinate pre-employment activities including background checks, drug screenings, employment verification, and onboarding documentation.
- Maintain an active pipeline of qualified candidates for current and future project needs.
- Build relationships with field supervisors and project managers to understand workforce requirements, project schedules, and hiring priorities.
- Travel to project sites, hiring events, workforce development programs, and career fairs as needed.
- Monitor recruiting metrics including time-to-fill, applicant flow, offer acceptance, and retention.
- Maintain accurate applicant records within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, EEO guidelines, and company hiring policies.
- Promote the company's culture, safety commitment, and career opportunities throughout the recruiting process.
- Assist with workforce planning and staffing forecasts based on upcoming projects.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of recruiting experience, preferably in heavy civil construction, industrial, manufacturing, or skilled trades.
- Experience recruiting high-volume hourly craft positions.
- Strong understanding of construction trades and field operations.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple openings in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), Microsoft Office, and recruiting platforms.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites.
Preferred
- Experience recruiting within heavy civil, geotechnical, deep foundations, marine, bridge, or infrastructure construction.
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and construction safety requirements.Experience recruiting in multi-state environments.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
