Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. seeks a skilled Craft Foreman to lead field teams and ensure on-budget, quality construction with a strong safety focus. You will coordinate layouts, supervise crews, and maintain records under the Project Superintendent's direction.

The role requires five years of construction experience, OSHA 10 and related safety training, and effective communication with project management. On-site supervision across multiple projects is expected.

Qualifications

• Formal education at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of construction-related experience with a track record of quality and profitable craft work.
• Regular communication with project management and safety teams.

Responsibilities

• Complete field tasks with quality construction, stay within budget, and aim for zero accidents as directed by the Project Superintendent.
• Provide support and accurate information to the Project Superintendent and field management.
• Organize and monitor crews and verify work accuracy (dimension checks).
• Ensure safety compliance and lead daily Safety Task Assignments with crews.
• Perform layout using survey equipment and coordinate with shop drawings.
• Complete timesheets with certified payroll; manage field material requisitions.
• Manage small tools, monitor productivity, and maintain field logs and erosion control (SWPPP).
• Identify drawing discrepancies; attend daily/weekly meetings; assist with startup activities.
• Provide input for production plans and oversee material handling, receiving and inventory.

Primary Responsibilities

The Craft Foreman is responsible for successful completion of field tasks with quality construction, zero accidents, and within budget as assigned by the Project Superintendent. Additionally, the Craft Foreman will provide support and accurate information to the Project Superintendent.

• Beaufort, SC

Technical Skills

Good communication and interpersonal skills, must be current with training as competent person in trenching, scaffolds, rigging, confined space, and fall protection, current in OSHA 10-hour, First Aid & CPR, SWPPP Inspector, silica, Risk Management, and Accident training are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

Formal Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Work Experience: Five (5) years construction-related experience with record of quality and profitable craft work.

Communications: Requires regular communication with the Project Manager for project issues, with the General Superintendent and Safety & Health Director for labor, material and equipment issues and training, with the Senior Craft Foreman and the Project Superintendent for daily tasks.

Support Training Craft Workers SAFETY

• Assist with accident investigations


• Practice safety rules – Lead by Example


• Responsible for making sure crews follow the rules


• Schedule and organize training as required


• Complete safety paperwork


• Assist crews and subcontractors with safety violations


• Comply with Risk Management


• Monitor subcontractor compliance


• Lead morning stretch and flex


• Monitor and deliver Safety Task Assignments (STAs)
