COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE aims to perpetuate wildlife resources, provide a quality parks system, and offer sustainable outdoor recreation that educates and inspires stewardship.

The work focuses on managing, enhancing, and protecting wildlife and their habitats for public benefit, including visitors and future generations.

TWO VACANT POSITIONS:

Position 1 (PMA 02278):

This role manages wildlife and habitats on Russell Lakes State Wildlife Area and other wetlands in the San Luis Valley, working with various partners to implement habitat projects and maintain facilities. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, irrigation, weed control, asset management, and supervising temporary staff.

Position 2 (PMA 31943):

This role protects and manages habitats across multiple Wildlife Areas in the San Luis Valley, focusing on habitat improvement, maintenance, and public recreation. It involves similar responsibilities as Position 1, including routine maintenance, planning, and supervision.

COMMON DUTIES:

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Develops habitat projects, manages water and weeds, and oversees leases in compliance with laws.


MAINTENANCE
Maintains facilities, roads, fences, and equipment, using various tools and machinery.

WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT
Counts wildlife, assesses habitat effects, and supports planning efforts.

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS

Maintains records and inventories, updates skills and certifications, and manages procurement and personnel documentation.


SUPERVISION

Hires, trains, and supervises temporary employees and contractors.


CUSTOMER SERVICE & EDUCATION

Provides information and assistance to the public regarding wildlife and habitat issues.

Minimum Qualifications: Four years of experience in construction, equipment operation, farming, ranching, habitat or resource management, or related fields. No formal college degree required.

Substitutions: Education in related fields can substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant state experience, effective communication skills.

Required Competencies: Organizational skills, computer proficiency, ability to obtain certifications.


Conditions of Employment: Colorado residency, valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a CDL if needed, background checks, and willingness to travel. Schedule typically M-F 8-5 or M-Th 7-6, with some weekends.
