Job summary

Prime Healthcare is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I at Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, TX. The role involves drawing blood, handling specimens, labeling, and transporting samples to the lab, while ensuring proper identification and safety.

You will maintain equipment, follow quality and safety protocols, record patient data, and collaborate with departments to ensure high-quality patient care. Per-Diem, 8-hour shifts, mornings available.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current CPT I certification is required.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire is required and must be maintained.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for blood draws and ensure comfort and safety throughout the process.
• Collect blood using venipuncture via capillary puncture or other techniques with proper labeling of specimens.
• Organize, transport, and ensure proper processing of specimens to the laboratory for testing.
• Adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain specimen integrity and accurate test results.
• Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies and ensure proper sanitation.
• Perform more complex phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision.

Education

We are seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I, also referred to as a Phlebotomy Tech. The Phlebotomy Technician I will be responsible for drawing blood and handling specimens, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and transport to the lab. They also maintain equipment, adhere to quality and safety protocols, record patient data, and collaborate with other departments to ensure effective patient care.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

• Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process
• Responsible for correct blood collection, draw blood from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques; ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens
• Organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, ensure all specimens are properly processed and stored
• Adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens and ensure accurate test results
• Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensure everything is in working order and properly sanitized
• Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
• Current and valid state certification as a CPT I, required.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.
