Job summary

City and County of Broomfield seeks a Court Security Officer to safeguard the Combined Courts, screen entrants, and monitor CCTV. The role supports court personnel and the public while enforcing state statutes and local ordinances.

Qualifications

  • 1 year experience in customer service or screening environment preferred.
  • Experience in police or court security screening is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Combined Courts Screening Station.

Job description

Join our team and play a key role in the operational security of the Broomfield City & County Combined Courts. The Broomfield Police Department is looking for a Court Security Officer to help us enforce state and local ordinances while also providing high-quality service to court personnel and the public.

The Court Security Officer performs non-commissioned work in the enforcement of selected State Statutes and City & County ordinances, provides security at the Combined Courts, screens all persons entering the Combined Courts for prohibited articles, monitors and controls CCTV and security electronics systems, conducts building security sweeps, and provides assistance to the public and other personnel as needed. The employee works in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, agencies and the public in delivering effective and innovative services.

Salary Range: $24.28 - $35.29/hour

Starting pay is determined based on years of relevant experience, with applicants with little to no experience in security roles being eligible for the starting amount listed above.

Selection Process

Our selection process includes the following steps: application review, virtual one-sided interview, integrity interview, in-person panel interview, Computer Voice Stress Analysis, psychological suitability evaluation, sit-along with team, background investigation, and post-offer physical and psychological evaluations.

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
  • Responsible for operating the Combined Courts Screening Station.

  • Wand or pat searches all persons that enter the Combined Courts for prohibited articles and items that could be dangerous or are not permitted.

  • Monitor security cameras for the Police Department, Combined Courts, and Municipal buildings.

  • Communicate effectively with angry and/or distraught citizens, working with the public on problem solving and mediation.

  • Provide assistance to sworn police personnel in such areas as arresting persons and other routine matters.

  • Testify in municipal, district, and county court, as required.

  • Exercise sound judgment in all aspects of the job, including decisions as to confiscating items and notifying other officers or court personnel of potential problems.

  • Perform responsibilities in compliance with federal and state regulations, Broomfield policies and procedures, and the Broomfield Municipal Code.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state, and county rules and regulations.

  • Keep operational records and make required reports.

  • Complete applicable paperwork.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

  • Use all required safety equipment.

Necessary Applicant Traits
  • Basic knowledge of security screening.

  • Basic knowledge of customer service techniques and practices.

  • Basic knowledge of conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques and practices.

  • Skill in understanding and responding to customer needs.

  • Work well with a variety of demanding people.

  • Ability to exercise fair and impartial judgment in dealing with people of varied backgrounds, age, sex, and ethnic groups.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English, verbally and in writing

  • Ability to organize tasks and working environments to maximize efficiency.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Training –

    • High school graduation or GED equivalent.

  • Experience –

    • 1 year experience required in dealing with customers, preferably in a screening/security-type environment.

    • Experience working in a Police or Court Security screening environment is preferred.

Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however, education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, CVSA or polygraph, pre-psych, medical examination, drug screen, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment.

  • Clearance to access law enforcement automated information systems.

Working Conditions
  • Required to wear body armor while performing the duties of this job.

  • Primarily works indoors but may be required to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

  • May be exposed to varied safety hazards, which range from exposure to radiation while operating the x-ray security screener to dealing with combative or dangerous persons to assisting officers if necessary to make an arrest.

  • The noise level in the environment is moderately noisy.

  • This position normally involves working Monday through Friday and after hours as required.

  • The employee’s schedule can be changed with little or no notice, and mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notification.

  • Frequently required to sit, talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Occasionally required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects).

  • Tasks may require sitting at a computer for several hours.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision.
