Job summary

City of Mesquite is seeking a Deputy Marshal to provide law enforcement and protective services in the Municipal Court, safeguarding city employees and the public while enforcing applicable laws. During court sessions, the Deputy Marshal follows orders from the Presiding Judge and maintains order in the courtroom.

Responsibilities include operating security equipment, screening with metal detection and x-ray devices, and coordinating with the City Marshal.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 30 hours of college credit from an accredited college or university; or
• 2 years patrol/investigative experience as a full-time commissioned officer; or
• 2 years active military duty with honorable discharge.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security of Municipal Court building and courtroom.
• Operate security equipment and monitor cameras and alarms.
• Protect judges, attorneys, and staff; ensure courtroom safety.
• Enforce city, state, and federal laws and court policies.
• Prepare for and attend hearings, process warrants and subpoenas.
• Provide information and services to defendants and the public.
