Job summary

The City of Vestavia Hills is seeking a well-qualified Magistrate Supervisor who will supervise Magistrates within the municipal court system and serve as a liaison between the court and the public. The role requires a Magistrate certification approved by the Alabama Administrative Office of Courts (AOC) and involves court proceedings and trial preparation.

Qualifications

• AAOC certification is required or obtainable.
• Experience overseeing municipal court legal proceedings.
• Ability to obtain NCIC certification within 6 months of employment.
• Experience accepting and/or reporting financial processes (cash receipts, reporting, and collections).
• Experience developing programs for the court system (recidivism reduction, driving school, deferred prosecution).

Responsibilities

• Oversee alternative sentencing programs and collaborate with local entities to meet program goals.
• Process cases after court by entering information into the case management software and attaching documents.
• Act as liaison between the municipal court and the public, handling inquiries and payments.
• Assist the judge during court proceedings by recording rulings and providing information to defendants.
• Conduct hearings and prepare for trial by evaluating complaints and reviewing evidence.
• Engage in professional development and stay updated on field developments.
• Supervise staff by assigning work, training, and providing feedback.
