Job summary

The Connecticut Judicial Branch is seeking qualified interpreters across statewide locations to provide Spanish or Portuguese interpreting in court proceedings, hearings, and related communications, in person or via remote devices.

Responsibilities include performing simultaneous, consecutive, and sight interpreting, making court announcements in the target language, maintaining records, preparing activity reports, data entry, and participating in ongoing training to maintain interpreting

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to perform simultaneous, consecutive and sight interpreting and written language proficiency in the target language.
• Incumbents will be required to travel in the course of their daily work.

Responsibilities

• Perform the three modes of interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation) from English into Spanish or Portuguese and reverse in a variety of court proceedings, hearings, attorney/client conferences, pre-arraignment communications and related matters in person and by remote devices.
• Make court announcements in Spanish or Portuguese as directed by the judge.
• Maintain records of services provided.
• Prepare activity reports.
• Collect and enter data into automated recordkeeping systems.
• Participate in study and training activities individually or in groups in order to develop and maintain interpreting and translating skills.
• Assist defendants in completing court-related forms by interpreting, at the direction of the court.
• Draft translations of forms and documents in the target language.
• Perform related duties as required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $63,204 - $82,436 annually plus State of Connecticut benefits.
