Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Misdemeanor Compliance Program Supervisor and Community Programs Manager - DWI, the Court Compliance Officer (CCO) will monitor and supervise defendants' compliance with the conditions of probation imposed by a District or Magistrate Court. Supervision is limited to persons convicted of a misdemeanor criminal offense specified in the Criminal Code, convicted of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor/drugs, or convicted of driving with a suspended or revoked license under the Motor Vehicle Code.

CCO duties as required by Magistrate and District Courts to include, but not limited to:

• Determine the extent to which referred defendants comply with their sentences for attending and completing court-ordered programs and treatments through interaction with Magistrate and District courts, including but not limited to paying fines, fees, and restitution.
• Through telephone calls, virtual meetings, and office visits, encourage and motivate referred defendants to comply fully with sentences from the courts, including but not limited to the payment of fines, fees, and restitution.
• Provide periodic defendant compliance and non-compliance reports to the courts, district attorney's office, and defense attorneys.
• Receive and receipt compliance program costs and monthly fees from the defendant.
• Set up and maintain a community service program within the county.
• Track defendants sentenced to the probation program.
• Make random visits to residences, places of employment, bars, and restaurants.
• Require and carry out periodic random testing of the defendants for alcohol and drug compliance.
• Monitor the defendant's use of an ignition interlock device.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree and two years of experience in the judiciary, in a criminal justice position, in counseling, or another human services discipline. Relevant education may substitute for experience and relevant experience may substitute for education at a rate of 30 semester hours equating to one year of full-time work experience.
• Never been convicted of any felony crime or crime involving moral turpitude.
• Knowledge of approved principles and practices of law enforcement and applicable laws and ordinances
• Knowledge of investigative techniques and practices.
• Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, character, honesty, integrity, criminal record, driving record, etc.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and a minimum of 21 years of age.
• Ability to report and record, legally and accurately, observations and situations.
• Ability to deal courteously, yet firmly and effectively, with individuals assigned to supervision.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and other agencies.
• Must possess a valid driver's license, with no prior DWI, misdemeanors in the past 5 years.
• Ability to handle stress and respond appropriately in stressful situations.
• Ability to write intelligible, complete and concise reports.
• Ability to remain alert at all times and react quickly in emergency situations. Must be physically fit.
• Able to deal with situations requiring tact and diplomacy and be courteous to the public.
• Ability to be persuasive, assertive and empathetic to people from various populations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong writing and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational and computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Google Mail and Excel.
• Ability to communicate effectively in private and public settings with large and small groups of people.
• Ability to understand and communicate in English oral and written. Fluency in Spanish desirable.
• Ability to interact professionally with supervisor, subordinates and other co-workers.
• Ability to work independently of daily supervision and to exercise discretionary judgment and thinking.
