Job summary

The City of Greer is seeking a Court Clerk in the Municipal Courts Department to manage court hearings, document disposition, and ensure accurate case records. You will support the court with filing, scheduling, and financial transactions, while interacting with the public and city staff.

The role requires at least an Associate’s degree, one year of judicial case management experience, and a valid SC driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Requires Associate’s degree.
  • One year of judicial case management experience, to include handling documents and dealing with customers in a criminal justice or court related setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Description

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Court Clerk in our Municipal Courts Department.

Responsibilities
  • Clerks court hearings, motions, and trials to record information manually and with audio/video recording equipment; transcribes this information onto dockets; prepares official Court dispositions and other documentation for each court session. Finalizes all paperwork after court and disperses accordingly. Enters dispositions into case management system which automatically transmits to the appropriate agencies.
  • Performs various customer service functions, answers telephone, directs all incoming calls to appropriate party promptly and efficiently, responds to inquiries from the public, City Officials, other City departments, or other government entities.
  • Performs a variety of research functions and uses word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software; produces documents and correspondence, which requires advanced word processing skills.
  • Prepares documents, records, reports, referrals and forms requiring knowledge of programs, policies, ordinances, codes, laws, and procedures. Researches, compiles, consolidates, and/or tabulates information; incorporates information into requested reports and other prepared materials; proofreads for accuracy and completeness; and distributes upon approval.
  • Monitors progress, success or failure of court programs.
  • Prepares a variety of Court Orders including Bench Warrants, Commitment Orders, Orders of Conditions, Orders of Payment and other Orders as directed by the Court.
  • Schedules and confirms hearings, trials, etc. on the Courts calendar.
  • Assists with Jury selection and preliminary hearings; maintains juror list, calls roll of the venire, calls jurors into the box, directs excused jurors as to when and where to appear next, swears the jury, polls the jury when directed by the Court.
  • Receives and accounts for monies received as fines and prepares daily deposit report.
  • Receipts and processes web-based payments.
  • Receives and responds to mail.
  • Answers questions from attorneys, other office staff, and the public.
  • Organizes and maintains court files; makes appropriate entries in files; file-stamps various documents; submits files for signature; ensures the smooth flow of files through the court system.
  • Acts as liaison between judges and a variety of other departments and agencies.
  • Trains new employees on specific job duties as directed. Performs related work as required.
  • Schedules all interpreters for court sessions when required.
  • Prepares appeal paperwork to include audio/video recordings.
  • Physically transports General Sessions’ paperwork to both the Greenville and Spartanburg County Clerks of Court offices, as needed.
  • Transports daily deposits and paperwork to City Hall.
  • Must have working knowledge of process and procedure of judges.
  • Must know process and procedure for both Greenville and Spartanburg counties.
  • Clerks preliminary hearings and DV Court as needed
  • Fills in for Jury Trial Coordinator in case of her absence during Jury Week.
  • Must know how to operate all electronic equipment in courtroom.
  • Processes Expungement Orders.
  • Prepares monthly Disbursement Report.
  • Prepares payment requests for restitution and refunds when applicable.

Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, M-F; with additional hours as needed

Salary: Minimum $24.11 hourly; dependent on experience
