Job summary

Northwestern Community Services Board is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist for Recovery Court in Virginia. The role uses lived recovery experience to provide non-clinical, client-centered support and group sessions.

You will engage clients in the Recovery Court program, assist with care planning, and help build personal recovery plans while coordinating with clinical teams and community resources.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• At least one year experience in behavioral health services or with behavioral health populations.
• Lived experience of recovery with at least 1 year of psychiatric stability or sobriety.
• Completion of Virginia peer-based recovery specialized training required.
• Must possess valid driver's license and ability to provide own transportation.

Responsibilities

• Engages with clients in the Northwest Regional Adult Recovery Court and assists with transitional and continuity of care planning.
• Provides face-to-face interactions supporting recovery, wellness, independence, or personal strengths.
• Serves as a recovery and wellness role model and supports self-advocacy.
• Assists individuals and families in writing and communicating recovery-wellness plans.
• Provides peer-to-peer support in groups, encouraging participation (WRAP, Dual Recovery, etc.).
• Facilitates non-clinical peer education and wellness coaching through group activities.
• Mentors community integration by connecting to social, recreational, spiritual, volunteer, educational, or vocational resources.
• Supports development of natural support systems and employment/education services.
• Attends treatment team meetings and participates in supervision for professional growth.
• Attends weekly recovery court dockets and provides client support during court.
