Course Description

The purposes of examinations. Causes of complaints about examinations. Equalizing means and dispersions in distribution of marks. Standardized scores. The percentile system. Essay and objective-type examinations. Taxonomies of educational objectives. Validity and reliability: item analysis.

Teaching Qualification Requirements

Education

  • Master’s or PhD in Educational Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Applied Cognitive Psychology, Human Development, Applied Psychology, Child Development, Clinical Psychology, or equivalent

Experience

  • Knowledge of educational and psychological assessment
  • Knowledge of the application of educational and psychological theories to authentic settings
  • Experience in school teaching or working with teachers in professional development contexts on this topic
  • Knowledge of Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur (MELS) requirements

Other

  • If the applicant has taught this course exactly once previously, they are eligible to apply. This condition does not apply to applicants who have taught the course at least twice.
  • If the applicant has not taught this course previously but has taught in the hiring unit, they are eligible to apply.
  • Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field.
Additional Information

Effective dates of appointment are December 29, 2025 to May 1, 2026. Course dates are from January 5, 2026 to April 14, 2026. This course will be offered in-person on campus at McGill.
