Job Description
General Purpose of Job
Duties include specimen transport, STAT pick up services, as well as supply and material delivery. The Courier Tech II provides efficient, safe, and courteous service for all internal and external customers by transporting specimens, reports, and supplies in a timely manner. Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
Essential Duties
- Load, transport, and deliver supplies, materials, and equipment to all areas of the health system and its customers.
- Operate electric pallet truck and other material handling equipment, load and unload truck deliveries.
- Stock supplies, fill customer orders, and deliver in a timely manner.
- Transport specimens, reports, and materials between the health system and its customers in accordance with all policies and procedures.
- Complete route sheets as required to indicate completion of route, documentation of pick-ups and deliveries, and to indicate customer-specific requirements.
- Comply with requirements for vehicle maintenance and safety as defined in department policies.
- Comply with policies for cell phone utilization.
- Able to perform all duties of the Courier Tech I.
Work Environment
- Ability to drive a car for extended periods and get in and out multiple times a day.
- Deliver supplies and/or equipment over 31-51 lbs. frequently.
- Work on weekends and holidays as assigned.
- Be available for “on-call” assignments as scheduled.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, and chemicals possible.
- Use of phone, pager, and radio for communication.
Job Requirements
General Requirements
- Valid Michigan Chauffeur’s driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must obtain and maintain valid DOT Medical Certification.
Work Experience
- Proven performance for at least 2 years in the Courier Tech I role or similar.
Education
- High school diploma or GED.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to operate a motorized pallet truck.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to follow step-wise directions accurately.
- Ability to read and follow a map.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Neat, well-groomed appearance.
- Ability to drive and get in/out of a car multiple times daily.
- Effective verbal communication with clients and team members.
- Proficiency in using phone, pager, and radio for communication.
