Job summary

Service Corporation International in San Diego seeks a Courier to transport documents and family mementos to destinations including homes or funeral homes, interacting with families with sensitivity and obtaining signatures as required.

You will drive company vehicles, perform errands, and may assist with moving caskets. A high school diploma and valid CA license are required; travel up to 80% and occasional software updates may be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current state issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• At least one (1) year work experience as a courier or driver strongly preferred.
• Basic computer skills are helpful.
• Communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively.
• Contribute to Team Success.
• Work indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions.
• Significant amount of local and/or multiple location traveling required.
• Professional Dress is required when in contact with families.
• Casual attire for vehicle maintenance.
• Frequent, continuous periods of time standing, up to 2 hours per day.
• Sitting continuously for many hours per day, up to 2 hours per day.
• Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently.
• Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, includes paperwork, calculators, computers and phone usage.
• Physical effort requiring attention to driving hazards, traffic, and weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
• Ability push/pull up to 200 pounds
• Working beyond “standard” hours as the need arises
• Travel up to 80%

Responsibilities

• Transports and delivers documents, family mementos, flowers, and similar articles safely to destination that may include family’s residence or funeral home
• Courteously and professionally interacts with bereaved family members; exhibits sensitivity to environment; obtains signatures as requires; minimizes conversation
• Runs office errands such as post office, office supplies, food, or similar
• Transports caskets to airports, care centers, or cemeteries; may assist with moving caskets
• May update software with delivery information.
• Washes, vacuums, and cleans vehicles ensuring vehicle is presentable
• Fuels vehicles as necessary; following safety guidelines and expenditure processes
• Identifies vehicle engine or operating issues to management
• Drives vehicles for repair or inspection
• May assist Removal Technician with driving or lifting as needed
• Additional responsibilities as requested or assigned
