Job summary

Three Rivers Regional Library System is seeking a part-time Courier to support daily operations by transporting library materials between branches and the regional office in Jesup, GA. The role requires a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and 21+ years old status.

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license with no restrictions.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• At least 3 years of driver’s experience (not including permit year).
• No major driving infractions in the last 5 years.
• Less than 3 driving infractions in the last 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Drives a motor vehicle to transport and deliver library material and other items between libraries, the Regional Office, and other destinations.
• Lifts and carries heavy library materials between buildings and vehicles.
• Ensures library vehicles are maintained according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Sorts and labels library materials for delivery.
• Retrieves library materials from branch locations.
• Sorts and delivers interoffice mail between the branch libraries.
• Follows directions, reads maps, and works under time schedule.
• Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization.

Job description

Position Title: Courier
Reports to: Collection Management Librarian
Pay: $12.00/hr
Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. start. End time varies based on workload. Maximum of 19.5 hours/week. Days may shift holiday weeks.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Work Location: TRRLS Regional Office, 280 S. Mahogany St., Jesup, GA 31546

General Position Description
The courier is a critical component of Three Rivers Regional Library System’s daily operations and service to our libraries and the community. The courier will be responsible for driving the library’s vehicles to libraries and other locations to pick up and deliver library materials and other items. The position also sorts all items moving between libraries and being received/sent through the PINES statewide courier network. The courier will be responsible for scheduling vehicle maintenance and upkeep on all vehicles in coordination with the Office Manager.

Essential Functions

• Drives a motor vehicle to transport and deliver library material and other items between libraries, the Regional Office, and other assigned destinations.
• Lifts and carries heavy library materials between buildings and motor vehicles.
• Ensures that library vehicles are maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Sorts and labels library materials for delivery.
• Retrieves library materials from branch locations.
• Sorts and delivers interoffice mail between the branch libraries.
• Makes special deliveries or pickups as needed/directed.
• Follows directions, reads maps, and performs work under time schedule.
• Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license that has no attached restrictions.

Other Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must have at least 3 years of driver’s experience (not including permit year).
• Less than 3 driving infractions in the last 3 years.
• No major driving infractions in the last 5 years.

• Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in motor vehicle operation.
• Ability to work independently and establish priorities.
• Ability to organize and sort library materials based on established criteria.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to display a professional business attitude with a pleasant demeanor.

Supervisory Duties

This position has no supervisory duties.

Work Environment

The work is typically performed in a library setting and with prolonged periods of driving a library vehicle. Some time is spent outdoors loading and unloading vehicles in a non-climate controlled environment.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a part-time non-exempt position.

• Starting pay of at least $12.00/hr.
• Six hours of holiday pay for Thanksgiving and Christmas days.
