Job summary

American Cap Company Inc. seeks a Coupling Operator to monitor CNC Mill/Lathe operations on a designated shift and support production, QA checks, and setup/teardown tasks. Strong gauging skills, calculator use, and familiarity with Mazak/Okuma/Fadal controls are essential.

The role requires 3+ years in CNC machining, the ability to read various documents, and effective communication across the organization. Training may be provided for gaps in qualification. A valid driver's license is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years’ experience in CNC Mill and Lathe operations.
  • Must be qualified to use gauging required to support coupling production, including bore and offset changes.
  • Capable of using a calculator.
  • Proficient with all CNC machines within the department.
  • Proficient with Mazak, Okuma, Fadal machines and their operations.
  • Familiar with standards in the Geo-Metric III Instruction.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to write routine production reports and request support as needed.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and data entry.
  • Able to use measuring tools to set fixtures and tooling, and verify QA specs.

SUMMARY:

A working position which is responsible for monitoring department staff production on designated shift and the operation of CNC Mill and/or Lathe production. Responsibilities include but are not limited to production, Quality control gauging, teardown and set-up, and maintenance associated with the equipment. The position also includes operation of saws to prepare raw materials for machining. Must have the technical ability and be able to utilize critical thinking and decision making abilities to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concentric variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Product manufacturing within the department.
  • 2. Daily, periodic, and preventative maintenance of CNC equipment.
  • 3. Set-up and tear-down of machines to support production, to Include:
    • a. Change out of inserts
    • b. Offset adjustments to compensate for tooling changes.
  • 4. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • 5. Record all necessary data pertaining to Production, including QA checks for tolerance and other assigned values.
  • 6. Work under the direct supervision of Machine Shop Supervisor.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • 1. Minimum three years’ experience in the field of CNC Mill and Lathe operations
  • 2. Must be qualified to use all necessary gauging required to support coupling production, including but not limited to Bore, off-set changes, etc.
  • 3. Must be capable of using a calculator.
  • 3. Proficient with all CNC machines within the Department
  • 4. Proficient with Mazak, Okuma, Fadal machines and their operations.
  • 5. Familiar with standards included in the Geo-Metric III Instruction
  • 6. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • 7. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as necessary to properly fill out production reports, and to request additional support as needed.

  • 9. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • 10. Ability to enter data into a computer.
  • 11. Able to use measuring tools to properly set and modify fixtures and tooling.
  • 12. Able to use measuring tools to determine that Quality Assurance specifications are met.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • 1. Valid Driver’s License
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:

The employee will be expected to meet efficiency ratings of 80% or better.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The associate frequently is required to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to support production needs.

The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Production paced CNC operation to support customer (internal and external) demands.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must maintain an orderly, clean and safe work area and properly care for Company and Customer property.
