Job summary

The Wisconsin Counties Association is seeking a County Surveyor for Clark County, WI. This role focuses on maintaining county PLSS corners, creating and maintaining PLSS records, and reviewing land division documents.

You will input data into the county GIS and communicate with the public and staff under the department administrator. Essential duties include performing STATUTES-based surveys, creating survey maps with CAD software, ensuring data accuracy, and managing records of CSMs and plats.

Qualifications

  • An Associate’s degree in surveying, civil engineering, GIS or a related field is required.
  • Must be a Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Wisconsin.
  • Must be able to successfully pass criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform County Surveyor duties as defined by State Statutes 59.45.
  • Create and maintain orderly PLSS records in the County Surveyor’s office.
  • Maintenance of orderly records of CSMs, plats of survey, plats, and other records and data relative to surveys in Clark County.
  • Assures accuracy of submitted CSMs and plats.
  • Performs various surveys of County – owned lands.
  • Assist other department employees in performing various measurements and surveys pertaining to ordinance administration.
  • Create survey maps through use of computer aided drafting software.
  • Interprets and enters data into GIS from survey corners, parcel boundaries, CSMs, plats, and boundary descriptions.
  • Create maps to portray GIS data in an understandable and aesthetically pleasing format.
  • Develop point, arc, and polygon geographic coverage through use of digitization, coordinate geometry, orthophotos, and scanned documents.
  • Oversee survey-related activity of Land Information Technician(s) or LTE.
  • Responsible for assisting in preparing, examining, analyzing contracts that involve the purchase of contracted services involving establishment and maintenance of county PLSS section corners.
  • Communicating with the general public and staff members in general ordinance administration under the direction and guidance of the department administrator.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, seminars, and educational training as required by the department administrator.

Purpose of Position:

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • An Associate’s degree in surveying, civil engineering, GIS or a related field is required.
  • Must be a Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Wisconsin.
