Job summary

Clay County is seeking to fill the County Auditor-Treasurer role to provide leadership for the department and oversee budgeting, treasury, tax, and financial reporting functions.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or related field, 7–10 years of finance experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass a background check. It is a full-time, on-site role with a comprehensive county benefits package.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provides overall leadership and direction for the Auditor-Treasurer Department.
• Prepares and administers the department budget and allocates resources to ensure statutory responsibilities and organizational objectives are achieved effectively and efficiently.
• Directs the administration of accounting systems, treasury functions, cash management activities, investments, internal controls, and financial reporting processes.
• Advises the County Administrator, County Board, and department leaders regarding financial trends, budgetary impacts, fiscal risks, and long-term financial sustainability.
• Oversees preparation of annual financial statements, audits, and required state and federal reports and ensures compliance with governmental accounting standards and applicable laws and regulations.
• Directs the administration of the county property tax system and ensures compliance with applicable Minnesota statutes and regulations.
• Oversees tax calculation, billing, collection, settlement, and distribution processes and certifies tax rates and levies for taxing jurisdictions.
• Serves as the County's Chief Election Official and directs the administration of all federal, state, county, municipal, school district, and special elections conducted within the county.
• Ensures compliance with election laws, regulations, security protocols, and reporting requirements while maintaining the integrity and transparency of the election process.
• Represents the county in interactions with state agencies, local governments, school districts, professional organizations, auditors, financial institutions, and community stakeholders.

Salary Range: Hiring Range: $121,014.40 to $130,707.20 or negotiable, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Full Salary Range is: $121,014.40-$174,241.60

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or a related field.
• Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, auditing, taxation, elections and leadership experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to successfully pass a background check

• Represents the county in interactions with state agencies, local governments, school districts, professional organizations, auditors, financial institutions, and community stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned.
