Job summary

Halifax County Government seeks a County Attorney to serve as the chief legal counselor to the County Commissioners, County Manager, and all county offices. You will respond to legal inquiries, prepare and review legal documents, and render opinions on all county government matters.

Description

The County Attorney is the chief legal counselor for the County and legal advisor to the County Commissioners, County Manager, and all county offices, departments, agencies and boards. Duties include response to legal inquiries, preparing and reviewing legal documents, rendering legal opinions concerning all areas of county government, and representing the County in litigation. The County Attorney works under the general supervision and direction of the County Manager and is required to take an active role on the County Management Team.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of law and extensive experience as a practicing attorney, with substantial experience in local government preferred. Possession of a license to practice law in the State of North Carolina. Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina is required. Halifax County requires each department head to reside within the county borders by the completion of their nine-month probationary period.
