Job summary

Accomack County is seeking a seasoned County Attorney to provide comprehensive legal counsel to the Board of Supervisors and County Administrator. This full-time role covers litigation management, contract review, and advisement on local government matters, including land use, taxation, and personnel issues.

The ideal candidate will possess a JD from an ABA-accredited school, Virginia Bar admission, and at least three years of practice, with preference for local government experience.

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
• Membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar and authorization to practice law in Virginia.
• At least three years of legal practice.
• Willingness to reside in or relocate to Accomack County, VA.

Responsibilities

• Advise Board of Supervisors and County Administrator on legal matters.
• Manage litigation and coordinate with outside counsel when needed.
• Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, contracts, leases, and related documents.
• Provide guidance on local government law, zoning, contracting, and public records obligations.
• Educate County officials and staff on legal/regulatory responsibilities.
• Track changes in law and advise leadership on impact to county operations.
