Counter Sales/Delivery Driver Description

Southern Pipe & Supply is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Counter Sales/Delivery Driver Associate to join our team. This multifaceted role is vital to delivering exceptional customer service, supporting inventory operations, and ensuring timely deliveries. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-conscious, and thrives in a team-driven, fast-paced environment within the plumbing wholesale/retail industry.

Essential Responsibilities

Customer Service & Counter Sales

• Provide outstanding customer service aligned with our “Service Way Service” standard.
• Assist customers in selecting merchandise based on needs and product knowledge.
• Explain product features, operations, and care instructions to customers.
• Enter and complete sales in the computer system; handle cash and credit transactions.
• Respond to customer inquiries in-store and over the phone.
• Process returns, exchanges, and special orders; coordinate with other branches to locate merchandise.
• Generate price quotes and develop job-specific pricing for customers.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming sales counter and showroom area.

Delivery Operations

• Load and unload customer purchases safely and efficiently.
• Schedule and deliver orders to customer locations using company vehicles.
• Verify delivery documentation and ensure accurate fulfillment.
• Maintain a clean and safe vehicle; report maintenance issues promptly.
• Represent the company professionally during deliveries with strong customer interaction.

Warehouse Operations

• Receive, unpack, inspect, and stock incoming inventory.
• Accurately process inventory transactions in the computer system.
• Pick and stage customer orders for delivery or pickup.
• Maintain inventory organization on racks, shelves, and bins.
• Conduct periodic inventory counts and assist with stock replenishment.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely per OSHA standards.
• Ensure a clean, orderly, and safe warehouse and yard environment.
• Understand and follow hazardous materials safety protocols and labeling.

Team Support & Other Duties

• Collaborate with team members to support branch goals and customer needs.
• Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Branch Manager.
• Contribute to sales growth by developing and following an annual sales action plan for assigned accounts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Minimum of 1-3 months of related experience preferred.
• Required to meet DOT regulations including a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Report.
• Forklift/lift truck operation eligibility required (certification can be provided).
• Product knowledge in plumbing supplies and building materials is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to accurately read, understand, and interpret written information and part numbers.
• Team player with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Friendly customer-service attitude and ability to interact with customers and Southern Pipe family members in a fast-paced environment

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds regularly.
• Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
• Comfortable working in varied environmental conditions, including indoor warehouses and outdoor yards.
• Ability to operate machinery and handle physical tasks associated with warehousing and deliveries.
• Willingness to work extended hours occasionally based on workload.
