Job summary

Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is hiring a Counter Sales Associate in Rutland, VT. You will engage customers, suggest gases and related products, and process transactions in a fast-paced retail environment. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1+ years in retail or customer service; exposure to industrial sales a plus.
• Forklift experience required; training provided on hire.
• Ability to operate in a drug-free workplace.
• Able to lift up to 60 pounds with help or equipment.
• Strong customer service skills in fast-paced environments.
• Comfort with basic math and POS systems (training provided).
• Physically able to move gas cylinders/tanks as needed.
• Attention to detail in handling transactions.
• Occasional overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with industrial, medical, and specialty gases and related supplies.
• Recommend tools, hardware, and materials to complete customer projects.
• Demonstrate equipment use and explain product quality to customers.
• Process orders and paperwork, including costing and pricing.
• Coordinate between customers and team via phone, email, and in-person.
• Contribute to outbound call strategy to grow branch performance.
• Move merchandise between locations and maintain showroom displays.
• Support cylinder movement and pallet organization.

Responsibilities

We're looking for a Counter Sales Associate to join our team in a role that balances high-energy customer interaction with meaningful operational support. If you enjoy solving problems and building relationships in a dynamic, industrial environment, we want to meet you! A Counter Sales Associate will partner with our customers to provide industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other essential supplies. You will serve as a trusted guide, advising customers on the tools, hardware, and materials needed to successfully complete their projects. By demonstrating equipment use and sharing insights on product quality, you help our customers pioneer new solutions in their own work. Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment to ensure a secure environment for everyone. Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external partners, fostering understanding and long-term relationships. Ensures all required paperwork is accurately completed, including coding, costing, and pricing. Partners with customers to identify the best tools and procedures for their specific tasks; demonstrates equipment use to build customer confidence. Manages order entry and processes transactions; assists the team with the reconciliation of deposits. Coordinates via phone, e-mail, and in person with customers and team members to provide helpful information on costs and delivery. Contributes to an outgoing call strategy to support the continued growth and success of the branch. Coordinates the transfer of merchandise between locations to meet customer needs. Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a supportive manner with customers, vendors, and colleagues. Stocks shelves and maintains welcoming showroom displays to provide an excellent customer experience. Coordinate cylinder movement and pallet organization.

Required Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a retail or customer service environment, with exposure to industrial sales or a related field considered a plus.
• Forklift experience required, and full training will be provided upon hire.
• Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
• Capable of moving items up to 60 pounds regularly, using material handling equipment or assistance as needed.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
• Comfortable using basic math and computer tools, including POS systems (training provided).
• Physical capability to move, load, and swap out customer gas cylinders/tanks.
• Attention to detail in handling transactions.
• Availability for occasional overtime when the team needs extra support.

Preferred Qualifications

• A background in gas, welding, or safety supplies is a wonderful asset.
• Familiarity with SAP, Google, or MS Office Applications.
• A valid driver's license is helpful for this role.
• A detailed understanding of SAP and PROS functionalities.
• The ability to communicate clearly and warmly with a wide variety of people from different backgrounds.
