Job summary

Connecticut College seeks a licensed psychologist to join Student Counseling Services. The clinician will provide assessments, treatment, crisis intervention, and on-call support, while supervising psychology and social work interns and collaborating with campus partners to promote student well-being.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical/counseling psychology from an APA-approved program and internship.
• 2–3 years of clinical experience; college mental health preferred.
• Licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in Connecticut; maintain licensure.
• High integrity to handle confidential information.
• Experience serving diverse clinical populations, including LGBTQIA+, indigenous, international, religious and disabled students.
• Experience providing clinical supervision within practicum training.
• Well-organized, able to work under pressure and as a team member.
• Excellent presentation and social skills.

Job description

The Counselor provides comprehensive clinical care, including assessment, diagnosis, counseling, and treatment, while also providing crisis intervention, consultation, on-call support, outreach, and programming.

The position offers opportunities to train and supervise Psychology and Social Work interns and trainees and collaborate with campus partners to support student well-being. We seek a clinician with strong clinical judgment and experience providing affirming, sex-positive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care grounded in risk reduction and student self-determination.

The ideal candidate is experienced in supporting students across diverse identities and lived experiences, including sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, class, religion, and physical functioning, and understands the intersection of these identities. General Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform psychological assessments, on-going treatment and clinical consultation, as required.
• Perform general and specialized clinical and outreach services in an affirmative, sex-positive, culturally sensitive approach consistent with risk reduction principles, and that promotes self-determination.
• Ensure that documentation and productivity meet standards set in Student Counseling Services policy and procedure.
• Provide training and supervision to clinical practicum students as needed.
• Remain current in literature and treatment developments in the mental health field, especially college student mental health, identity-focused issues and recovery.
• Receive professional development as required to maintain license.
• Participate in the development and updating of department policies and procedures that may affect students.
• Perform administrative tasks that contribute to the functioning of the Student Counseling Services.
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergency and crisis situations that pertain to students and campus life.
• Collaborate with the Identity-focused Counselor to offer specific expertise regarding LGBTQIA+ identity issues to various components of the college community.
• Adhere to the ethical codes of conduct appropriate to professional bodies such as the APA and other professional organizations.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
• Perform departmental research, provide reports, as needed.
• Work after hours and on breaks, as needed.
• Travel as necessary to meet the requirements of the position.

Education and Skills

• Doctoral degree in clinical/counseling psychology (Ph.D./ Psy.D), APA -approved program and internship.
• 2-3 years of clinical experience; experience in college mental health preferred.
• Licensed to practice (or license-eligible) as a psychologist in the state of Connecticut; maintain licensure.
• High integrity needed to handle confidential information.
• Knowledge, training and experience in serving diverse clinical populations.
• Knowledge, training and experience in serving traditionally underserved populations, including indigenous, LGBTQIA+, international, religious and disabled students.
• Experience in providing clinical supervision and training within practicum student training program.
