Job summary

Stone River Recovery Center in San Antonio, Texas seeks a Counselor I to provide treatment and support for clients recovering from addictions and related issues. The role includes planning, group sessions, assessments, and crisis intervention, with a focus on individualized care and family education.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in social or health services, state-acceptable licensure/certification in counseling or eligibility, and CPR/de-escalation certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social or health services field required.
• Licensure or certification for counseling required or eligible within designated timeframe.
• CPR and de-escalation certification required.
• Experience in counseling field instruction or practicum required.
• First aid may be required depending on state or facility.

Responsibilities

• Participates in client treatment planning and continuum of care.
• Conducts group and/or family sessions under supervision and documents as required.
• Co-facilitates sessions and assists with modifying problem behaviors.
• Responsible for initial and follow-up assessments for clients.
• Prepares individual treatment plans for assigned clients.
• Ensures documentation regarding client care and incidents is complete and timely.
• Acts as liaison between referral sources and clients.
• Provides crisis intervention to clients as needed.
• Plans for aftercare and liaises with insurance carriers as requested.
• Provides case management and ensures personalized quality care.
• Evaluates client needs and referrals to other programs if required.
• Provides client and family education on substance abuse/psychiatric issues.
• Conducts educational workshops within the facility and in the community.
• Serves as liaison with self-help groups and EAP professionals.
• Performs ongoing assessments of services required by treatment programs.

About the Job

LCDC preferred! The Counselor I provides treatment and support to assist clients in their recovery from addictions, such as alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, or other behavioral problems, assists with modifying problem behaviors; may also provide counseling services to families of clients.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Participates in client treatment planning and continuum of care.
• Conducts group and/or family sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and documents as required.
• Co-facilitates assigned group or family sessions and assists with modifying problem behaviors.
• Responsible for initial assessments, as well as follow up assessments for clients.
• Prepares individual treatment plan for each assigned client.
• Ensures all documentation regarding client care, treatment and incidents is completed timely and in a clear, concise manner.
• Acts as a liaison between referral sources and clients.
• Provides crisis intervention to clients, as needed.
• Plans for aftercare for assigned clients.
• Acts as a liaison with insurance carriers, as requested.
• Provides case management duties for clients, ensuring individualized quality care.
• Evaluates the need of the client and determines if referrals to other programs or facilities is needed.
• Provides client and family education relative to substance abuse/psychiatric problems.
• Conducts educational workshops both within the Facility and in the community as required.
• Serves as a liaison with self-help groups and EAP professionals.
• Conducts ongoing assessments of chemical dependence services required by the Facility treatment programs.
• Bachelor’s degree in social or health services field required.
• Experience in counseling field instruction/internship or similar practicum through education or certification process required.
• Licensure or certification for counseling, as required by the state in which the facility operates; OR state license or certification eligible within the timeframe designated by the facility.
• CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility
