For over 50 years, Metrocare has provided a broad array of services to people with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health care, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, services for veterans and their families, accessible pharmacies, housing, and supportive social services. Alongside clinical care, researchers and teachers from Metrocare’s Altshuler Center for Education & Research are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County while providing critical workforce to the state.

Licensed Professional Counselor Of Healing Arts is primarily responsible for monitoring services and providing Community Support Services and therapeutic services. The Licensed Professional Counselor of Healing Arts uses a basic knowledge of diagnostic characteristics, symptomology of primary mental illness and a knowledge of medications, side effects and benefits to provide services in a person-centered, supportive, community-based environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attends all treatment team staffing and is alert to opportunities for promoting/providing psychosocial rehabilitation or use of community resources for consumers.
  • Provides individual and small group training in living skills such as social skills, budgeting, mobility training, grocery shopping, menu planning, cooking, coping skills, personal hygiene, personal organization, home maintenance, etc.
  • Provides therapeutic counseling services in accordance with clinical algorithms.
  • Assists in completing intake assessments and diagnostic formulations as needed.
  • Coordinates services within the Agency and with other community providers.
  • Assists with the involvement and education of the consumer’s family at a level acceptable to the consumer.
  • Obtains authorizations as needed from third-party payers.
  • Assists with monitoring and continued assessment of assigned consumers, which may require home visits.
  • Responds to crisis or potential crisis situations and ensures the appropriate level of care through the coordination of services or the provision of community support services.
  • Assists with on-call services in accordance with Agency procedures.
  • Facilitates skills training and therapeutic groups.
  • Provides transportation for consumers in an agency-provided vehicle to and from community resources or social activities as needed.
  • Assists consumers in planning and implementing social/leisure activities as appropriate.
  • Documents services in the automated clinical record-keeping system within 24 hours after services have occurred.
  • Maintains required productivity levels as outlined in Center policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information concerning consumers and family members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in psychology, Social Work, or related field with 2 to 3 years of specialized experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Basic math skills required.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to assess the needs of consumers and implement a training plan.
  • Ability to recognize and report side effects of psychoactive medications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments, take initiative and be creative.
  • Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current State of Texas Driver License or must obtain Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment if licensed in another state.
  • Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business.
  • Licensure as LPC, LCSW or Ph. D.
  • TB Test, CPR, First Aid and PMAB.
  • TAC web-based training.
