Job summary

Alvin ISD seeks a Junior High School Counselor to counsel and advocate for students, helping them develop personal, social, academic, and career skills within a comprehensive guidance program at McNair Junior High.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Counseling, a valid Texas school counseling certificate, and at least three years of teaching experience, and will collaborate with staff, families, and the community to implement district goals.

Primary Purpose/Role:

The primary responsibility of a school counselor is to counsel and advocate for all students to fully develop their personal, social, academic, and career abilities. A school counselor works alongside school faculty/staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at the assigned school.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Master's degree in Counseling
• Valid Texas school counseling certificate
• Minimum three years of creditable years of teaching experience

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of school counseling procedures, social/emotional learning, student academic and career development. Child behavior management and emotional regulation techniques.
