Job summary

AtlantiCare seeks a Counselor Intern to assist in the Residential Treatment Unit under the supervision of a licensed counselor. You will help coordinate client attendance, orient new clients, monitor sessions, and support group counseling as part of a structured treatment program.

The role emphasizes ethical practice, participation in supervision, and adherence to record-keeping standards while contributing to quality customer service and organizational performance improvement.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalency. Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred.
  • Must be actively pursuing CADC, LCADC, LSW, or LPC, required within 3 years of hire or transfer. CPI, American Heart Association BLS and HeartSaver First Aid required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
  • This position requires repetitive motion, hearing, pushing, reaching, and reading, seeing, speaking, standing and walking a majority of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the orderly operation of the Residential Treatment Unit.
  • Facilitate attendance of clients to JBRC activities per program schedule.
  • Orientate new clients to the program and treatment modality.
  • Monitor clients' urine as scheduled and randomly.
  • Assist in building searches and familiarization with record-keeping practices.
  • Participate in administrative and clinical meetings; conduct didactic lectures; co-facilitate group counseling sessions.
  • Practice the 12 core functions of counseling; participate in supervision and evaluations.

Education

Position Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor the Counselor Intern shall assist in the orderly and systematic operation of the Residential Treatment Unit. Facilitate the attendance of clients to all JBRC clinical/social activities in program schedule. Monitors client engagement and behavior in scheduled treatment activities. Orientate new clients to the program and specific treatment modality. Monitor clients' urine when scheduled and randomly. Assist in building searches. Familiarize self with record-keeping practices and standards. Participate in administrative and clinical meetings as required. Conduct didactic lectures as assigned and co-facilitate/facilitate group counseling sessions. Practice 12 core functions of counseling. Participate in supervisory sessions and six month evaluations. Learn and adhere to ethical standards of counselors as documented in the Alcohol and Drug Counselors handbook. Inform clients that clinical services are being provided by counselor in training under the supervision of a licensed counselor. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires repetitive motion, hearing, pushing, reaching, and reading, seeing, speaking, standing and walking a majority of the time. Spends time with such equipment as computer terminal, fax machine, copier, and telephone. Essential functions of this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
