Job summary

Amityfdn is seeking a Counselor I to deliver face-to-face rehabilitative programming in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP). The role includes conducting group and individual sessions, implementing curriculum, and supporting participants as they transition back to the community.

The position requires knowledge of ISUDTP contract requirements, strong interpersonal and written communication skills, and familiarity with MS Office and ARMS for documentation.”

Qualifications

• Certified AOD Counselor or DHCS-recognized certification.
• Registered with an AOD certifying organization or enrolled in AOD education classes with six months of CBI experience.
• Knowledge of substance use treatment processes and ISUDTP contract requirements.

Job Summary:

The Counselor I is responsible for the delivery of face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).

Essential Duties:

• Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.


• Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum as required by contract. Leads and participates in face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic processes.


• Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participation and completion.


• Works directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.


• Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, records visible changes in appearance, behavior and demeanor of program participants.


• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluates and documents the progress of participants assigned to their groups.


• Completes all delivery documentation requirements per contractual obligations in ARMS. Summarizes participants’ background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.


• Prepares accurate, concise, informative reports, records and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and complies with applicable clinical and administrative rules.


• Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.


• Works collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff. Supports and collaborates co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors and Regional Directors.


• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required:

• Less than one (1) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR


• Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, enrolled in AOD education classes, and six (6) months of experience providing CBI services.

Certifications or Licenses:

Required:

• Current AOD Certification with organization recognized by the DHCS OR Registration with BBS or AOD certifying body; depending on education level.

Skills/Abilities:

• Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical and social effects of drug abuse.


• Knowledge of contractual requirements of ISUDTP is essential.


• Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.


• Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS.


• Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.


• Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants.


• Protect and maintain program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.

Work Conditions:

• Generally, in an indoor setting.


• Occasionally works in outdoor elements such as precipitation, snow, extreme heat, or wind.


• Work is in an incarcerated setting.


• May or may not be able to possess canes, walkers, crutches, etc. per CDCR regulations.

Environmental Conditions:

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud.


• The temperature in the work environment is generally moderate however can range from hot to cold seasonally.


• Seldom may be exposed to non-lethal chemical agents as administered in necessary use of force security instances.

Travel:

• Occasionally travels local and operates motor vehicles.
