Job summary

Amity Foundation in the United States seeks a compassionate individual to join our prison programs as a Registered/Certified Substance Abuse Counselor I. You will deliver face-to-face rehabilitation services in the ISUDTP, conduct group and individual sessions, and develop treatment plans with participants returning to the community.

Qualifications include current AOD certification and DHCS-recognized eligibility, with up to six months of related experience if enrolled in education classes.

Qualifications

• Less than one year of experience delivering SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor.
• Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, enrolled in AOD education classes, and six months of experience providing CBI services.

Responsibilities

• Deliver face-to-face rehabilitative programming services to participants in ISUDTP.
• Lead and participate in group and individual sessions using motivational interviewing and CBT.
• Implement scheduled program curriculum as required by contract.
• Develop and implement treatment/action plans with participants and educate about community supports.
• Review treatment plans and document progress, changes in appearance, behavior, and demeanor.
• Maintain accurate, timely, confidential participant records and progress notes.
• Prepare reports, records, and plans consistent with Amity standards and contractual obligations.
• Liaise with transition/reentry staff for community program continuity.
• Collaborate with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff; support supervisors and directors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

About the Position:

The Counselor I (Apprentice) is responsible for the delivery of face-to-face rehabilitative programming services provided in the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDTP).

• Deliver treatment programming services to participants and conduct group and/or individual sessions.
• Effectively implement scheduled program curriculum as required by contract. Leads and participates in face-to-face group and individual meetings utilizing motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic processes.
• Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participation and completion.
• Works directly with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans and educate participants about supportive networks as they return to the community.
• Review treatment plans, evaluate and record treatment progress, records visible changes in appearance, behavior and demeanor of program participants.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential participant records. Evaluates and documents the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
• Completes all delivery documentation requirements per contractual obligations in ARMS. Summarizes participants' background, treatment plan, and recovery process outcomes.
• Prepares accurate, concise, informative reports, records and plans that are consistent with Amity standards, and complies with applicable clinical and administrative rules.
• Liaise with transition/reentry staff, plans and prepares transitional documents as directed by CDCR for continued community program activities.
• Works collaboratively with CDCR, DRP, CCHCS and institution staff. Supports and collaborates co-faculty, including but not limited to Supervisors, Directors and Regional Directors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required:

• Less than one (1) years of experience providing SUDT services as a certified AOD Counselor; OR
• Registered with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS, enrolled in AOD education classes, and six (6) months of experience providing CBI services.

Certifications or Licenses:

Required

• Current AOD Certification with organization recognized by the DHCS OR Registration with BBS or AOD certifying body; depending on education level. Preferred: NONE

Skills/Abilities:

• Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical and social effects of drug abuse.
• Knowledge of contractual requirements of ISUDTP is essential.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
• Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS.
• Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participants.
• Protect and maintain program participants' health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
