Summary
The Counselor, High School, is responsible for coordinating and implementing a comprehensive school counseling program including academic advisement, social/personal counseling, career exploration, and parent/community involvement.
Responsibilities
- Provides individual, small group, and large group counseling services in academic advisement, career exploration, and social/personal development as per the American School Counselor Association standards.
- Collaborates with administrators, teachers, parents, district personnel, and community agencies to meet students' counseling and educational needs.
- Informs parents and students about graduation requirements, options, and mechanisms for acceleration.
- Uses school records and test results for educational planning and evaluates student transcripts.
- Addresses individual student needs and refers students to appropriate resources.
- Provides preventive, responsive, and crisis counseling services, including addressing mental health needs.
- Encourages parental involvement and assists in conferences.
- Supports student self-understanding, self-acceptance, and interpersonal skills development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities may evolve based on district needs.
Competencies
Effective communication, oral presentation skills, job knowledge, planning and organization, relationship building, among others, are essential.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling.
- Florida Professional Educator Certificate: Guidance and Counseling (Grades PK-12).
Skills
- Proficient in reading, writing, and interpreting documents.
- Effective in mathematical reasoning and computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Physical & Other Demands
Includes standing, walking, sitting, handling, lifting up to 10 pounds, and traveling to various sites.
