Job summary

Pinnacle Treatment Centers, Inc. in Akron is seeking a Counselor to support the recovery journey of our patients. The role requires an OH CDCA or higher counseling license and involves completing documentation, patient assessments, and crisis counseling within a structured treatment program.

Qualifications

• GED/High School diploma or higher.
• CDCA certification in Ohio required or higher licensure.
• Supervision plan must be developed for those with less than one year of full-time experience, with specified supervision frequency.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other documentation per federal/state standards and policies.
• Provide orientation to patients on program objectives, phase requirements, rules, and patient rights.
• Assess and place patients according to treatment phases per standards and policies.
• Update clinical documentation and patient charts accordingly.
• Counsel patients in crisis situations and address noncompliance to improve outcomes.
• Arrange referrals to community resources when appropriate.
• Submit reports and participate in case conferences and team reviews.
• Attend trainings and keep up with confidentiality and treatment regulations.

Education

GED/High School diploma or higher (OH/CDCA licensure to be obtained)

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other essential documentation in accordance with applicable federal and state standards and agency policies and procedures.
• Provide patients with orientation regarding objectives of the program, phase system requirements, rules and regulations, sanctions, hours of services, patient rights, and additional information to help patients adjust to the program.
• Assure each patient is assessed and placed according to the treatment phases in accordance with Federal and State standards and agency policies.
• Assure all clinical documentation and patient charts updated in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Counsel patients in crisis situations by identifying patient resources and coping abilities to help patients cope with and resolve crisis.
• Counsel patients who have refused to comply with specific program requirements to increase patient awareness of consequences of noncompliance.
• Arrange referrals to other agencies and resources in the community when appropriate.
• Perform treatment plan reviews
• Participate in case conferences and case reviews in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Develop and increase knowledge of federal, state, and agency regulations regarding confidentiality, methadone treatment, and substance abuse counseling certification.
• Submit all internal and external correspondence to supervisor for review and approval.
• Complete intakes, facilitate group counseling sessions.
• Collection and testing of urine/swab drug screening following proper chain of custody.
• Secure necessary documentation from patients, when appropriate, to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Submit monthly and quarterly statistical reports to supervisor.
• Attend supervisions as scheduled
• Attend team meetings and complete all training courses timely as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Counselor I

• GED/High School diploma or higher
• and CDCA certification in Ohio
• Counselors with less than one year of full‑time equivalent experience in the field of addiction treatment shall develop with their supervisor a plan to achieve competency prior to providing counseling services without their supervisor present during or constantly observing counseling sessions. The plan must specify the frequency of face‑to‑face clinical supervision meetings between the counselor and supervisor, and the timeframe for achieving competency which shall be no more than one year.

• LSW (dependently licensed)
• Licensed Social Worker or higher licensure in OH
• Licensed Professional Counselor or higher licensure in OH
• Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or higher licensure in OH

• Master’s degree or higher and
• Independent Marriage and Family Therapist (IMFT)
• Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC)
• Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)
• Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) (independently licensed)
