Job summary

AccessPoint RI is seeking a part-time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our Personal Choice Program. You will work with an occupational therapist and interdisciplinary team to implement individualized interventions that promote independence, daily living skills, and community participation.

You will assess needs, support home and community safety, provide training on equipment use, and help participants pursue funding for modifications.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or an associate degree in a related field.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with students, staff, and families.
  • CPR Certification (Pursuing Cert.).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet agency transportation requirements.
  • Ability to lift independently up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a licensed Physical or Occupational Therapist Certification from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America.
  • Experience gained through employment at an Independent Living Center and possess a strong commitment to the principles of Participant Choice and Participant Direction.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring effective and meaningful support to each person to whom they are assigned.
  • Serve as a liaison between AccessPoint RI and The Executive Office of Health and Human Services or other agencies that provide support to the participant.
  • Conducts community-based assessments for accessibility and adapted equipment needs for people with disabilities and elders as it pertains to improving their independence and safety.
  • Conducts equipment and accessibility assessments annually for all Personal Choice program participants.
  • Provides accessibility and mobility assessments.
  • Facilitates annual assessments.
  • Evaluate on an annual basis, the ability to function within their home and in the community and make recommendations on any home modifications, adapted equipment, or assistive technology that would increase the participants independence or safety utilizing an agreed upon assessment.
  • Assist the participant in identifying and applying for funding to acquire any modifications or equipment recommended in the assessment.
  • Provide training and education in the safe use of any equipment or modifications for both the participant and any caregivers the participant identifies.
  • Adequacy of the current spending plan and progress toward participant goals under the guidelines developed by the Medicaid agency.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
