Pay Rate - $32Hr - $40Hr DOE

Part time shifts available. Sign on/Retention Bonus $1500 (paid out as employment requirements are met)

FUNCTION:The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant will provide treatment to assigned patients, helping them reach their maximum performance level and use skills learned to the fullest to function in the community within their capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy required.
  2. Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association required.
  3. One year of experience preferred.
  4. Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  5. Strong customer service orientation.
  6. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  7. Ability to use tools used to make adaptive equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OTR) to help carry out treatment plans. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each key function satisfactorily.

  1. Provides consultation in areas such as environmental design, adaptive equipment, proper positioning of patients to prevent contractions and splinting. Administers and writes evaluations of assigned patients in accordance with departmental standards and procedures.
  2. Maintains timely and accurate patient records and reports.
  3. Designs and administers treatment programs to increase patients' levels of functioning. Uses therapeutic exercises and activities to improve or maintain strength, range of motion, and fine-motor coordination. Instructs patients in adapted techniques and the use of adaptive equipment for meal preparation, home management, dressing, feeding, and other self-care skills. Trains patients in the use of upper-extremity prosthetic devices to resume previous daily routines. Participates in home assessments.
  4. Provides therapy for neurological integration; administers sensor-motor integration treatment techniques and visual perceptual-motor remediation programs. Uses activities to increase developmental levels of patients. Designs and provides individualized therapy for adult learning-disabled patients.
  5. Designs and fabricates splints as specified by doctors' prescriptions; designs and/or fabricates slings and adaptive equipment to meet the needs of patients and/or their families.
  6. Administers treatment programs to traumatic brain-injured patients. Uses activities to improve judgment skills, reality orientation, and organizational skills.
  7. Provides prevention therapy to maintain functional skills; instructs patients in energy conservation, joint protection, safety techniques for sensory loss, and transferring and visual field deficits; instructs patients' families in personal care for patients, especially proper transfer techniques to avoid back strain.
  8. Administers prevocational programs to prepare patients to return to or enter a work setting. Provides activities to assess patients' organizational skills, attention spans, cognitive abilities, coordination (fine and gross-motor), and adaptive-equipment needs.
  9. Designs home programs and instructs patients or families in carrying out such programs.
  10. Participates in patient support groups with other team members.
  11. Demonstrates ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to fulfill job requirements.
  12. Demonstrates the ability to make independent decisions, solve practical problems that may or may not include a variety of concrete variables. This may require the ability to interpret instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
  13. Demonstrates the ability to listen actively and evaluate social situations in an objective, consistent and fair manner. Functions independently with integrity, flexibility and works well with residents, personnel and support agencies.
  14. Complies with community policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control procedures, emergency response and safety protocol.
  15. Complies with all company policies and procedures related to resident rights; abuse prevention and reporting; and resident confidentiality (HIPPA).
  16. Demonstrates knowledge of Employee Handbook and complies with the policies in the Handbook.
  17. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
