Costume Shop Student Production Assistant

Position Overview: The Costume Shop Production Assistant will help construct costumes for all Theatre/Dance productions during the school year. Duties mainly include sewing by machine and hand, as well as craft work such as painting, dyeing, and ornamentation. Other responsibilities include show laundry, repairs, pulling and refiling costumes, and maintaining the shop and storage areas.

Job Description
  • 70% Building costumes
  • 10% Show laundry and repairs
  • 10% Pulling and refiling
  • 10% Organization and maintenance
Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency with a home sewing machine (evidenced by application materials)
  • Familiarity with basic hand sewing techniques (evidenced by application materials)
  • Understanding of the construction process (evidenced by application materials)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic understanding of theatre and the build process
  • Intermediate to advanced clothing construction skills
Position Requirements

During the semester, student hourly employees must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. For summer, enrollment criteria include recent or upcoming semester enrollment or summer session participation. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible, with exceptions for GRA/GTA/GA appointments.

Employment Conditions
  • Remote work is not available unless approved.
  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Students cannot hold both hourly and salaried positions simultaneously.
