Position: Costume Shop Manager

Portland Opera is undergoing a transformation, as we transition to a new artistic home while remaining steadfast in our commitment to both innovative new works and the timeless classics of the opera repertoire.

Portland Opera is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Costume Shop Manager. This is a full-time, exempt position, reporting directly to the Director of Production.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Heading up the move-in and set-up of a Costume Shop in a newly refurbished Portland Opera artistic home
  • Analysis and implementation of all costume aspects for Portland Opera productions
  • Oversight of construction and alteration of all costumes, including builds and rentals
  • Supervision of costume staff, including IATSE wardrobe crew
  • Oversight of shop equipment maintenance and inventory
  • Organization and maintenance of extensive wardrobe stock
  • Budgeting and forecasts for all costume and wardrobe aspects of productions, including labor

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • 3 years of professional experience managing a costume shop of at least 3 employees
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Experience with IATSE union crews
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds and climb ladders
