Job description

Overview

Looking for a business minded individual with experience in Engineering, Cost Modeling, and Program Management to join the team as a Cost Model Specialist. This is a newly created position at our client and offers the right candidate the ability to interface with various functions within client as well as with suppliers. The ideal candidate will have experience in Cost Modeling and Program Management and has the ability to map the cost associated with processes involved in engineering and manufacturing of purchased parts. As we have suppliers located throughout the world, there is opportunity for international and domestic travel.

Responsibilities
  • Develop cost models globally for client’s supplier base
  • Coordinate with Enterprise Commodity Manager (ECM) and regional commercial teams on the development of the supplier priority list to build cost models and provide a monthly update on the status of the development projects
  • Lead/support Global Supply Management (GSM) in the negotiations with suppliers to get them to an “open book” relationship
  • Obtain a final agreement from a supplier once a model is developed for a supplier’s site
  • Coordinate with the pursuit team the use of the developed cost models in new programs quoting
  • Maintenance of the models as frequent as required, always obtaining the supplier agreement on the updated model
  • Through the development of the cost models, support the CIP regional leads in the discussions with the suppliers and our company to improve efficiencies and eliminate waste to become more competitive
  • Support as needed the evaluation of the validity of commercial quotes for engineering changes through the use of cost models
  • Support the Cost Improvement Process (CIP) regional leads in lean and VA/VE events
  • Support as needed and required the GSM Program Manager in program initiation Cost Book definition and understanding of any currency and material economic assumptions for suppliers that the cost models have already been developed
  • Ability to travel 50% or more of the time (local and international)
  • Collaborate with ECMs and engineering for cost competitive and efficient designs/processes as part of the cost model development
  • Participate in core and non-core training to increase personal and professional development
Qualifications
  • MBA Degree or similar in operations or finance
  • Major in manufacturing, engineering, operations, accounting, or finance
  • 3-5 year minimum experience costing and 2-5 years of experience in program management, engineering, and operations
  • Excellent at Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment
  • Self-driven and motivated leadership and organization skills
  • Exhibit the willingness to take measured risks with limited information and limited time
  • Ability to read blueprints and assess manufacturing feasibility
  • High analytical ability in complex situations
  • Ability to successfully lead a team of people
  • Excellent ability to deal with conflict management
