Job summary

Gleeds Corporate Services Ltd is recruiting an experienced Cost Manager/Quantity Surveyor in Columbus, Ohio. The role focuses on cost management for Data Centers, Mission Critical, Commercial and Manufacturing facilities.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication, solid construction cost knowledge, and a track record in estimating, cost reporting, and vendor management. A client-facing, collaborative approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5-10 years of experience in a cost management role in construction.
• Experience in Estimating, Cost Engineering, Project Cost Controls or related roles.
• Experience supporting program level cost management on medium to large projects.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.
• Knowledge of procurement routes, value management and value engineering.

Responsibilities

• Manage prequalification of vendors, assess proposals and bid leveling documents.
• Develop project estimates including construction, direct costs, and fees.
• Present estimates to clients and provide value engineering recommendations.
• Review cost reports and forecasts, maintain commercial risk register.
• Oversee invoicing, change orders, and contractor entitlements.
• Lead post-contract closeouts and final accounting.
• Prepare cost controls and bid analysis documentation.

About this opportunity

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Gleeds are seeking an ambitious Cost Managers and/or Quantity Surveyor to join our team, working on large-scale, high-impact projects, including Data Centers, Mission Critical, Commercial, and Manufacturing facilities for global clients.

The ideal candidate will be a good communicator and team player with a sound foundation in construction, in particular relating to cost management activities.

Candidates are required to have experience and/or high working knowledge in the following areas:

• Managing prequalification of vendors, assessing proposals, bids, and bidlevellingdocuments, making final recommendations tothe client, attending bid interviews, and managing appointment processes
• Estimating services for full project by developing project estimates (relating to construction, fees, direct work and other costs), presenting estimates to Client, preparing value engineering recommendations and risk assessments, meeting with vendors to review, validate, and challenge costs, and reviewing estimates by utilizing benchmark data collected from other projects
• Cost reporting by establishing reporting schedule, reviewing & presenting cost reports and forecasts, reviewing project budget & spend forecast, developing & maintaining commercial risk register, and hosting periodic meetings with project team & vendors
• Reviewing payment application assessments, liaising with project managers to recommend contractor entitlements, reviewing requests for change orders from vendors, and using dispute prevention/management/resolution procedures to manage payment requisitions, change orders, and contractual disputes
• Manage & monitor invoicing process
• Final accounting process and post contract audits and account close outs.
• Establish a lesson learned document for further professional development and creation training material.
• Perform all the duties above through the use/preparation of Bid Analysis Sheets, Change Control Forms, Cost Estimating Software, and Take-off Software

Who we’re looking for:

Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills

• Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience working in a cost management role in the construction industry.
• Experience, working in construction cost management roles such as Estimating, Cost Engineer, Project Engineer, Project Cost Controls etc.
• Thrives in a client facing role
• Experience supporting program level cost management for medium to large-scale construction projects.
• Good knowledge of the construction industry technical matters, such as different procurement routes, value management and value engineering.
• Strong communication skills
• Prior estimating tools and software experience required

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering or other field related to construction.
