Job summary

Pengate Handling Systems, Inc. is seeking a Cost Engineer / Estimator to develop accurate cost estimates for material handling and automation projects.

You will collaborate with Sales, Applications Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and suppliers to prepare pricing packages and ensure proposals are profitable. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable interpreting technical information.

Qualifications

• Analytical with strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, layouts, and project requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience collaborating with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Operations, and Project Management.
• Detail-oriented with ability to produce well-supported estimates.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; ERP/CRM experience a plus.
• Experience reviewing vendor quotations and cost data.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed cost estimates for material handling, warehouse automation, and integrated systems projects.
• Review customer requirements, project specs, layouts, technical drawings, equipment selections, and scope documentation.
• Estimate equipment, labor, engineering, software, installation, freight, travel, and subcontractor costs.
• Create and maintain internal costing models, estimating tools, pricing databases, and supporting documentation.
• Analyze project costs to identify risks, opportunities, and value-engineering alternatives.
• Compare estimates against historical results and lessons learned to improve accuracy.
• Update estimates as project requirements and scopes evolve.
