Overview

Position Description Summary: The Cost Estimator will prepare Independent Cost Estimates to support projects during planning, design, and construction.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

  • Prepare and review Engineer's estimates considering factors like Phasing, Airport Operations, Shift, Resources, Time Constraints, and Badging impacts.
  • Develop detailed and independent cost estimates from conceptual info and engineering drawings.
  • Prepare detailed estimates including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Provide constructability reports to identify issues and assist in developing credible cost budgets.
  • Reconcile estimates with third-party estimates and communicate results.
  • Analyze bids from vendors and contractors, aligning with estimates.
  • Determine production factors influencing costs and identify necessary field equipment.
  • Present estimates to management and stakeholders.
  • Lead negotiations with contractors and subcontractors.
  • Review material take-offs and develop component breakdowns.
  • Evaluate historical cost data for future estimates.
  • Review contracts and scope changes for scope and cost adjustments.
  • Assist in change order negotiations, review claims, and document negotiations.
  • Coordinate with project teams and prepare reports and correspondence.
Qualifications

Education/Training/Certification:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in engineering, construction management, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • Certified estimating professional credential required.

Experience & Skills:

  • 15-20+ years in estimating related to engineering and construction projects.
  • Experience managing a team of estimators.
  • Experience with complex reconciliation and negotiations.
  • Knowledge of construction processes and industry practices.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.

Hardware/Software:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Prolog preferred.

Salary range: $130,000 - $250,000, based on skills and experience.
