POSITION SUMMARY

Prepare cost estimates for projects with standard, configured product as a basis for pricing quotations. Work involves some diversity of product where application of established estimating practices is not difficult and scope of manufacturing operations is recognized as standard methods. Assist with originating and developing cost data where no previous standard practice data exists. Prepare final estimates for approval. Work is subject to check and verification and instructions are usually given on variations. Position could provide back-up services to the Order Processing Specialist role. Position requires basic technical knowledge of manufacturing practices, material identifiers and cost estimating procedures.

POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Evaluates customer request for proposal (RFP) and request for quotation (RFQ).

Determines estimate approach based on type of estimate required.

Create quote/bid and related documents.

Calculates labor costs using labor metrics and historical data.

Coordinates the collection of costing information from departments within the organization.

Obtain quotes from outside suppliers for custom materials as required.

Track all quotes for follow-up.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

AAS degree and/or estimating experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Standard configured product cost estimates.

Standard scope of manufacturing operations.

Requires limited technical knowledge of manufacturing practices, material identifiers and cost estimating procedures.

Cost control, budgets and forecasts.

Working knowledge of obtaining / using cost data and vendor quotes.

Reading of and quantification from technical documents.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Sound mathematical and numeracy skills.

Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Mostly an office environment with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor (proper PPE must be worn on manufacturing floor).

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Occasional travel related to other sites / corporate.
