Job summary

United Alloy, Inc. is seeking a Cost Estimator who will develop accurate cost estimates and customer quotations for fabricated metal products, working with Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations.

You will analyze customer drawings and specifications, collaborate with Purchasing, and maintain quotation records while supporting pricing decisions.

Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and proficiency in Excel are essential; welding experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Business, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years in metal manufacturing or fabrication.
  • Welding experience required; sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly experience preferred.
  • Experience developing manufacturing cost estimates and customer quotations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers accurate cost estimates, quotations, and cost models for new and existing customers.
  • Analyzes customer specifications, drawings, and supporting information to identify manufacturing requirements and prepare complete and accurate cost estimates.
  • Collaborates with Purchasing to obtain supplier cost information required for accurate quotations.
  • Analyzes pricing scenarios, validates gross margin objectives, and communicates pricing recommendations to Sales Management for final pricing decisions.
  • Reviews and updates pricing for existing products based on changes in design, material costs, and labor rates.
  • Maintains accurate quotation records and supporting documentation.
  • Reports significant cost, schedule, or technical concerns to the Cost Engineering Manager and other appropriate leadership.
  • Supports continuous improvement through estimating tool enhancements, post-award cost reviews, and lessons learned activities.
  • Participates in quote review meetings and customer proposal discussions, as required.

Description
SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Cost Engineering Manager, the Cost Estimator develops accurate cost estimates and customer quotations for fabricated metal products. This position works closely with Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations to evaluate manufacturing costs, support profitable pricing decisions, and ensure timely responses to customer requests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops and delivers accurate cost estimates, quotations, and cost models for new and existing customers.
  • Analyzes customer specifications, drawings, and supporting information to identify manufacturing requirements and prepare complete and accurate cost estimates.
  • Collaborates with Purchasing to obtain supplier cost information required for accurate quotations.
  • Analyzes pricing scenarios, validates gross margin objectives, and communicates pricing recommendations to Sales Management for final pricing decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree in Business, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of metal manufacturing or fabrication experience required.
  • Experience with welding is required. Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly operations.
  • Experience developing manufacturing cost estimates and customer quotations is required.
  • Experience with production routings is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing costing principles, profit margins, and pricing strategies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple quotations, projects, and competing deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Ability to identify tooling, fixture, and manufacturing requirements and work collaboratively with Engineering to determine associated costs.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar design software.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
