Job summary

TGS International Group seeks an Assistant Cost Manager to join its commercial team in the United States. You will assist with budgets, cost plans, reports and forecasts on major construction projects and work with project teams and subcontractors.

The role targets early-career professionals in cost management, with exposure to data centres and technically complex projects. Training and progression are available within an established commercial function.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance or related discipline.
• 0–3 years' experience in construction or cost management.
• Experience with large-scale design-build or EPC projects is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Data Centres, Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics projects is desirable.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills; proficient in Excel.
• Experience with CMiC, Procore, Viewpoint or similar is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support project budgets and cost plans.
• Prepare cost reports, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Track committed costs and forecast expenditure.

TGS International Group is supporting a leading international engineering and construction organisation in the appointment of an Assistant Cost Manager to join its growing commercial team in the United States.

The business delivers large-scale, technically complex construction projects across sectors including Data Centres, Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics and Pharmaceutical facilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stages of their commercial career who wants to develop within cost management, quantity surveying and project controls, working alongside experienced Cost Managers and project teams.

The Role

As Assistant Cost Manager, you will support the commercial management of major construction projects from pre-construction through to completion.

Responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the development and management of project budgets and cost plans.
• Preparing cost reports, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Tracking committed costs, approved changes and forecast expenditure.
• Supporting cost-to-complete reporting.
• Reviewing subcontractor variations and change orders.
• Maintaining project change and variation logs.
• Supporting subcontractor procurement and tender evaluations.
• Assisting with bid comparisons and award recommendations.
• Supporting monthly commercial and financial reporting.
• Assisting with cash-flow forecasting and cost reconciliation.
• Working closely with Project Managers, Estimators, Cost Managers, Finance teams and subcontractors.
• Identifying potential commercial risks and cost-saving opportunities.
• Maintaining accurate project cost records and documentation.

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
• Approximately 0–3 years' experience within construction, cost management, project controls, estimating, finance or a related field.
• Exposure to large-scale design-build or EPC projects would be advantageous.
• Experience or exposure to Data Centres, Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics or other technically complex construction projects is desirable.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• An interest in developing a long-term career within Cost Management / Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management.
• Experience with platforms such as CMiC, Procore, Viewpoint or similar would be advantageous.
