Job summary

WSP is seeking a Cost Analyst to join our Project Controls team. The role is based in any of several US locations and involves supporting cost control, budgeting, change management, and forecasting across projects.

You will collaborate with project managers and cost control staff, prepare financial reports, track costs, and assist with invoices. Ideal candidate has 5-7 years in project controls or finance in the power and energy sector, with strong analytics and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS Business, Finance, or Accounting (or equivalent).
  • 5-7 years’ experience in Project Controls, Financial Controls, Finance, or Accounting including leading a team.
  • Power & Energy industry experience required.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Confident self-starter in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and organization in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and produce deliverables.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with team members, contractors, and clients.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe tools.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager and Cost Control Manager in cost control, budgeting, and change management activities.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cash flows, and expenditure tracking.
  • Monitor costs vs. budgets and flag variances for review.
  • Track cost changes and provide input for recommendations.
  • Prepare cost estimates, forecasts, and funding requests.
  • Maintain financial models and cost tracking tools.
  • Generate cost reports and dashboards for PMO review.
  • Review invoices and track payment status.
  • Support project accounting functions including cost accruals.
  • Prepare memos, presentations, and client deliverables.

Your Impact

Job Duties:

  • Support the Project Manager and Cost Control Manager in the day-to-day administration of cost control, budgeting, and change management activities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of project and program budget forecasts, cash flows, and expenditure tracking.
  • Monitor contractor and consultant costs against approved budgets and flag variances or issues for review and resolution.
  • Track and log cost-related project changes, assist with analysis, and provide input for recommendations to the Cost Control Manager and Project Manager.
  • Prepare and update cost estimates, financial forecasts, and funding requests under the direction of senior project controls staff.
  • Maintain financial models and tracking tools to monitor cost allocations across project elements.
  • Generate regular cost reports, summaries, and dashboards for review by the Cost Control Manager and Program Management Office (PMO).
  • Assist in the review and processing of contractor/vendor invoices and track payment status to ensure alignment with contractual and financial requirements.
  • Provide supporting documentation and analysis for project accounting functions, including cost accruals and cost-to-complete evaluations.
  • Assist in the preparation of memos, presentations, and client deliverables, including basic charts, tables, and financial summaries.
Who You Are

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS Business, Finance, or Accounting (or equivalent)
  • 5-7 years’ experience in either Project Controls, Financial Controls, Finance, or Accounting including experience leading a team of professionals
  • Power & Energy industry experience required
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Confident self-starter with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment
  • Attention to detail and organization while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and produce project deliverables
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with team members, contractors, and clients
  • Skilled at building and sustaining relationships with all stakeholders
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to prioritize workload and deliverables
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint, Adobe Design and Publisher

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $110,000-130,000/yr

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
