Job summary

Crown Equipment Corporation in the United States is seeking a Cost Accountant to maintain standard costs for process labor and materials, and analyze cost trends to justify differences.

You will assist month-end closings, prepare cost and inventory reports, and support budgeting while collaborating with the cost accounting team and auditors.

Ideal candidates have an Associate degree in Accounting, strong Excel and SAP skills, and are willing to travel up to 5% as required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Basic cost accounting knowledge and process costing.
  • Proficiency in Excel and SAP (Quote to Cash / Budget to Report).
  • Willingness to travel 0–5%.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update standard costs for process labor and materials.
  • Assist month-end closings, reporting and budgeting.
  • Coordinate cost variance analysis and inventory adjustments.
  • Perform general ledger and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Prepare inventory and cost of sales reports for management.
  • Contribute to special costing and pricing projects.

Job Duties
  • Cost System Maintenance and Updates - Collect, maintain, and analyze data in order to assist in establishing standard cost for process labor and material. Analyze and summarize information and trends in order to establish and explain the differences when setting standards and preparing financial information. Evaluate the process rates and material cost information. Recommend systems changes to cost accounting system.
  • Period-End Closings/Reporting and Budget Assistance - Assist in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes for the Cost Accounting Department. Also assist in the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of annual material and process cost standards and budgets.
  • Variance Management and Reporting - Coordinate the preparation and analyses of reports to track cost variances, inventory adjustments and other cost items such as scrap, shortage, and obsolete inventory. Complete budget to actual manufacturing expense analysis and prepare reports for monthly manufacturing review.
  • Miscellaneous - Complete general ledger and intercompany reconciliations. Know the accounts receivable and accounts payable systems thoroughly in order to perform costing duties and provide departmental back‑up support. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Reports - Prepare and analyze various inventory and cost of sales reports for Company management and auditors. Examples include information concerning price, scrap, audit adjustments, shortages, and manufacturing expenses. Assist users in understanding and using such reports.
  • Special Projects - Work on special costing/pricing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Less than 2 years related experience
  • Associate degree (Accounting)
  • Non-degree considered if 6+ years of related experience along with a high school diploma or GED
  • Occasional travel (0-5%)
  • Occasional overnight stays (0-5%)
  • Job requires employee to drive a personal vehicle to conduct company business < 20% per week (8 hours) and/or travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday.
  • Per 8-hour shift. Sit for 6 hours. Stand for 2 hours. Typical office environment (Low noise level, limited exposure hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, and vibrations.) Regular interaction with others and performs a degree of independent work. Infrequently up to 10 pounds. Physical and mental demands are akin to the majority of office positions with prolonged periods of sitting and prolonged use of a computer/keyboard. Infrequently lifting, walking, and climbing stairs. Occasional use of office equipment (copiers, printers, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • A four-year college degree.
  • Working knowledge of Cost Accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • SAP Quote to Cash and SAP Budget to Report experience.
