Job summary

CMI Group in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Cost Accountant to join our manufacturing team. This role blends cost accounting with financial planning and analysis, partnering with plant leadership to inform pricing, efficiency and product profitability.

Daily tasks include journal entries, variances analysis, SKU margins, and budgeting. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in accounting or finance, 3+ years in cost accounting in manufacturing, and CMA/CPA or ERP experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• 3+ years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of standard and absorption costing, variance analysis, overhead allocation, and inventory accounting.
• Experience preparing and posting journal entries.
• Analytical and quantitative skills with good communication.
• Experience in aerospace/defense, precision machining, or discrete manufacturing.
• CMA or CPA certification preferred.
• ERP experience in manufacturing systems required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve standard costing systems (labor, overhead, materials).
• Ensure inventory accuracy and cost integrity in the ERP system.
• Analyze variances (labor, material, overhead, absorption, mix/volume).
• Post journal entries for inventory, reserves, accruals, and cost allocations.
• Collaborate with operations on BOMs, routings, and cost drivers.
• Perform SKU-level margin analysis and monitor KPIs like gross margin and PPV.
• Develop budgets and forecasts; support annual planning processes.
• Advise site managers and CFO; translate results into actionable steps.
