Job summary

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a full-charge cost accountant for a manufacturing environment. The role oversees day-to-day accounting, inventory costing, production tracking, and monthly financial reporting in collaboration with the Controller.

Strong internal controls and timely reporting are essential to support manufacturing operations. The position requires experience in MS Excel and ERP systems, with a background in MAS90 or Sage 100 preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have accounting experience with full-charge in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience with inventory costing, production tracking, and month-end reporting is preferred.
• Strong internal controls and adherence to GAAP are required.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-charge accounting functions including AP, AR, Payroll, and GL.
• Process sales, purchase orders, vendor payments, and customer receipts.
• Handle intercompany billing and account reconciliations.
• Prepare daily and monthly journal entries.
• Track raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory and analyze variances.
• Support monthly financial statements and cash reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.

Position Summary

A full-charge cost accounting role responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a manufacturing environment. This position supports all areas of accounting including inventory costing, production tracking, general ledger management, and month-end financial reporting. The role works closely with the Controller to ensure accurate financial data, strong internal controls, and timely reporting for manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Full-Cycle Accounting

• Manage full-charge accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger
• Process sales orders, purchase orders, vendor payments, and customer receipts
• Handle intercompany billing and account reconciliations
• Prepare daily and monthly journal entries

Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting

• Track and reconcile raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory
• Monitor production efficiencies and analyze variances
• Process inventory receipts, transfers, and warehouse movements
• Reconcile warehouse inventory on a daily basis
• Audit inventory systems and internal controls

Financial Reporting & Reconciliation

• Perform daily and weekly cash reconciliations
• Reconcile bank accounts, check registers, vendor statements, and general ledger accounts
• Prepare month-end reconciliations of assets, liabilities, and expenses
• Assist in monthly financial statement preparation
• Report variances and financial discrepancies

Compliance & Reporting

• Prepare monthly federal reporting related to tobacco manufacturing operations
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation systems
• Support compliance with internal control procedures and audit requirements

Collaboration & Systems Support

• Work closely with the Controller on financial reporting and system integrity
• Maintain accounting systems and ensure data accuracy within ERP platforms

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience (one of the following)

• High School Diploma/GED + 5 years accounting experience
• Associate Degree in Accounting or related field + 3 years progressive experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting + 1 year relevant experience

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
• Experience with MAS90, Sage 100 ERP, or similar integrated accounting systems
• Strong understanding of manufacturing or inventory-based accounting preferred

• Ability to interpret financial data and draw accurate conclusions
• High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
