Job summary

Check-Mate Industries, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to support our metal stamping and fabrication operations in Georgia. You will analyze manufacturing costs, maintain cost records, and provide financial insights to guide operational decisions.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in standard costing, inventory control, and BOMs/routings in a high-volume production setting, with ERP and Excel proficiency essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 3–5+ years cost accounting in manufacturing.
  • Experience with standard costing and inventory accounting.
  • ERP experience; Plex preferred or SAP/Oracle.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Perform cost variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory transactions, including WIP and finished goods.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and purchasing to ensure accurate BOMs and routings.
  • Analyze scrap, rework, and yield data to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support month-end close with journal entries and inventory valuation.
  • Prepare cost reports, margin analysis, and profitability studies.
  • Assist budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and internal cost-control practices.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
  • Evaluate cost impacts of new products, tooling, and process changes.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to support our metal stamping and fabrication operations. This role is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, maintaining accurate cost records, and supporting operational decision-making through financial insights. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in standard costing, inventory control, and manufacturing processes such as stamping, machining, and assembly.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead in a metal stamping environment
  • Perform cost variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) and provide actionable recommendations
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory transactions, including WIP (Work-in-Process) and finished goods
  • Partner with production, engineering, and purchasing teams to ensure accurate bill of materials (BOMs) and routings
  • Analyze scrap, rework, and yield data to identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Support month-end close, including journal entries, inventory valuation, and account reconciliations
  • Prepare and present cost reports, margin analysis, and profitability studies
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to manufacturing operations
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls related to cost accounting
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle count programs
  • Evaluate cost impacts of new products, tooling, and process changes
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field accompanied by 3- 5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (metal stamping or fabrication industry is preferred)
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLSAND ABILITIES
  • Strong understanding of standard costing systems and inventory accounting
  • Experience with ERP systems, Plex is a plus (or similar e.g. SAP, Oracle)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as stamping, welding, machining, or assembly is highly preferred
  • Experience in high-volume production environments
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations and engineering team
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employeeis regularly required tostand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.Employees must be able to sit and stand forlong periodsof time. The employeeis occasionally required tostoop, reach overhead,liftand/or move up to 25 pounds.Tasks require manualdexterity,hand, arm, and finger dexterity tooperatecomputer keyboard and other office equipment. In addition to visual and hearingacuity;as well asidentifyingand distinguishing colors.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

This role is primarily based in an office environment within a high-volume manufacturing facility, with occasional responsibilities on the shop floor. When present in designated production areas, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to ensure safety and compliance with workplace regulations.
